Stem cell funding ban overturned in the US

In a 2-1 decision, a panel of the court of appeals in Washington overturned a judge’s order that would have blocked federal financing of stem cell research. The judges ruled that opponents are not likely to succeed in their lawsuit to stop the government funding.

Researchers hope one day to use stem cells in ways that cure spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s disease and other ailments.

Stem cells are cells with the capacity to turn into any other type of human cell, be it bone, muscle or nerve cell.
